Global spending on enterprise application software (EAS) will edge higher in 2015 and the growth is expected to accelerate in the coming years, according to Gartner’s latest report.
The analyst predicts that by the end of 2015, annual EAS spending worldwide will have swelled 7.5 per cent year o year to reach $149.9bn (€133.5bn), driven by the marketing, e-commerce and advanced analytics sectors. By 2019, spending is forecast to hit €201bn.
“The majority of spending is going towards modernising, functionally expanding, or substituting long-standing business and office applications with cloud-based software-as-a-service,” said Bianca Granetto, research director at Gartner.
“Projects have been approved and budgeted for, often over a multi-year period, meaning the pace of spending and adoption isn’t subject to any impending urgency.”
